Meet Emma! She is a Pug/Beagle/Yorkie mix who was born on 11/6/2009.  She is a sweet, calm dog that loves to spend time with her people.  She gets along well with dogs of all sizes and even cats.   She currently lives with four other dogs and one cat. One of Emma’s favorite things to do is to be outside on walks.   She will even wake from a nap upon hearing her leash being picked up.  She usually walks with a loose leash until her Beagle nose takes over.  Once on a scent, she tends to pull harder on the leash.

Emma loves a comfortable place to take a nap (see video with sound turned on and  you will hear soft snoring) as long as it is near her person.   She loves bones (see the video to see exactly how much).   She also likes stuffies.  In fact, she has the remnants of one that she has had for almost her entire life.  It is no longer stuffed, and is no longer even in a recognizable shape.   It is now just a raggedy hunk of fabric that I am told used to be a hedgehog (see video of Emma with it). She brought it with her from her former home, and wants to have it with her.  She carries it around from place to place.

Emma’s super power is that she is quite adept at catching flies. She lies quietly in wait until one flies near her, and then she jumps into action and catches it in mid-air.

Emma’s absolute favorite thing to do is EAT!  This is very evident by the fact that she is currently overweight.  In her last home, she lived with a toddler that enjoyed sharing food with Emma.  Emma is very good at sniffing out anything edible that is within her reach and will steal it in the blink of an eye.  This is probably another reason that she is overweight.  If she were not a little chunky, she would make an excellent counter surfer!  Be very careful leaving anything edible unguarded within her reach for even a moment!  Emma is currently on a weight loss plan that includes weight management dog food, fresh vegetables for snacks, (see video of Emma enjoying  a carrot) and exercise. She is off to a good start and has lost 5 lbs. since she has been in her foster home.  She has about 5 more pounds to lose.

Besides the fact that little people are good for sharing their food, they are also not a good match for living with Emma.  They move too quickly and don’t always know how to be respectful toward dogs.  As Emma has gotten older, she has little patience for rough playing and impulsive movement from young children and has been known to nip/bite.  For this reason, Emma would be best living in a home with older, respectful children or no children.

Emma is crate trained and will even sometimes go into her crate on her own for quiet time or a nap.  She is respectful of her environment and can be trusted to be left alone with limited roam for hours at a time, if necessary precautions are taken to keep her safe and out of mischief.

Emma is potty trained on a 3-4 hour schedule during the day.  If left too long, however, she may have an accident.

Emma prefers to sleep in the same room with her human and usually chooses to either sleep on a dog bed, under the human bed, or in her crate with or without the door open.  She is only able to go about 6 hours at night without needing to go outside to potty.

Emma is not an excessive barker, but will bark briefly when someone first comes into the house. She will also bark as her food is being prepared in an attempt to hurry the process.  She enjoys car rides.  She is very easy to bathe and stands still for brushing.  She tolerates having her nails trimmed.

If Emma sounds like a dog that would make a great addition to your family, fill out an application and arrangements will be made for you to meet her.
