Well, hello!

My name is Sammie. As great as my foster home is, I really hope to find a lovely forever family this new year!
Here's a little about me: A shelter in Hope, Arkansas, picked me up as a stray, so I didn't have a lot of human socialization prior to coming into rescue. After a month-long but successful heartworm treatment, I ventured up here to MN with a bunch of other Wags & Whiskers dogs (and cats) in October 2016. (As long as I continue to get monthly heartworm preventative, I will live out a full and normal life.) My foster mom has been teaching me how to be more confident, how to trust people, and how to do a few tricks along the way. Not to brag or anything, but I'm pretty dang smart... here's just a few little things I know: sit, stay/wait, down, side, roll-over, sit-pretty, dance, spin and rewind, bow, ball, and we're working on learning rope and my other toys. I'd love to see how that agility or flyball thing works? It's fun to keep my brain and/or body exercised!
Some of the basics: I'm a young adult; best guess date of birth is June 2014. I'm a medium dog, about 45lb. I'm great with dogs and cats. Because there are no kids in my foster's home, I'm not totally sure how I am around them (at adoption events, children don't phase me much)... I'd like to think that I would be cool with older, respectable kiddos. I'm hesitant with new people, but if they ignore me when we first meet and let me come to them on my terms, I do much better (and don't bark at them)... especially when they give me treats. :p I am crate trained while my foster parents are away; but I've proven to be a good dog, so I get to stay out of my crate over night... and even sleep with my foster family (on the floor in my very own doggie bed)! I only really bark when I hear the garage door; I just can't wait to see my humans! (ok, so I also bark when someone knocks on the door OR when I get playful.) I am potty trained (ring bell on door to let my people to I need to go out). I walk well on a leash and don't mind my gentle leader. I do alright riding in the car as long as I don't have too much food right before. All sounds pretty great, huh?

It would be wonderful to meet you! Maybe you can come over and give me some cookies?! ok, lemme know. Have your people call my people ;)
XOXO,
Sammie
